The Shield
Shields are a strong protective object used in battle to protect you from your enemy, but I’m not talking about a physical enemy. I’m talking about a spiritual enemy called the devil. The devil shoots arrows at us. Here are some arrows he shoots: negative peer pressure, drugs, bad language, self-pity, bad attitudes, disrespect towards authority, gossip, negative thoughts, teasing, laziness, selfishness, greed, pridefulness. These are just a few of the devils weapons, but it’s not hopeless. Even though it’s hard not to give in, the Bible says it’s possible not to surrender, no matter what the devil says.
“Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” Ephesians 6:16
See, God protects us with the shield of faith. He gives us a way to escape. But we still need to be on guard.
“Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8
Here is an encouraging psalm:
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust."
Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,” Psalm 91:1-5
In closing, just remember that God will never leave you. He loves you so much that he sent his only son to die for you. Look up in the sky tonight and look at the stars and find the big dipper. Imagine how big it really is. All the people that ever lived or ever will live could not even fill half of the big dipper. Then imagine that the big dipper is a measuring cup of God’s love just for you. And that’s not even scratching the surface.
